Monroe Responds to Crane Park Goose Rumors, Denies Ordering Removal
The Village of Monroe is pushing back against rumors circulating on social media regarding the geese at Crane Park, issuing a public statement clarifying that the village did not have the birds removed from the popular park.
"There has been misinformation circulating regarding the geese at Crane Park," the village stated. "To be clear: the Village of Monroe did not have the geese removed from Crane Park."
The statement comes amid growing online speculation about the disappearance of geese from the area. Village officials urged residents to rely on verified information and official communications when discussing community matters.
The controversy has drawn attention in part because the village has previously addressed concerns related to Canada geese at Crane Park. In recent years, Monroe approved agreements with the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Wildlife Services program to help manage the local goose population through nest treatments and other non-lethal mitigation efforts. Village officials said those measures were intended to reduce nuisance issues while following wildlife-management guidelines.
Public records also show that the Village Board approved a cooperative agreement with USDA Wildlife Services for Canada goose management at Crane Park.
