Trees Cut and Hillside Lowered to Improve Safety at Seven Springs Mountain Road Turn
A dangerous turn along Seven Springs Mountain Road is getting an important safety improvement, with trees being removed and part of the hillside cut lower to give motorists a clearer view of approaching traffic.
The location has been a concern for drivers because limited visibility around the turn can make it difficult to see vehicles coming from the opposite direction or entering the roadway. The problem can become particularly dangerous during rain and other poor driving conditions, when motorists have less time and distance to react.
The safety improvement work is being carried out by Orange County DPW, which is removing trees and lowering a portion of the hillside to improve visibility for drivers traveling through the area.
The area has also seen serious crashes. In December 2025, a New York State Police trooper was injured when a vehicle lost control and struck a marked State Police vehicle while the trooper was responding to another crash in the area.
Now, the removal of trees and lowering of the hillside are opening up the sight line around the turn. Drivers approaching the intersection can see farther ahead, potentially giving them additional time to recognize approaching vehicles and avoid a collision.
