Suspect Arrested After Theft and Pursuit

By Y.M. Lowy

A burglary at the Orange Bank and Trust in Middletown, NY, led to a brief manhunt before the suspect was apprehended. Police responded to reports of a suspicious man who had accessed a secure area of the bank by forcing through a locked door and posing as a contractor. Although a perimeter was set and a K-9 search initiated, the suspect, later identified as 59-year-old Edward Alexander of Manhattan, had already fled in a yellow Penske rental truck.

A detective from the Hudson Valley Crime Analysis Center used surveillance footage and a license plate reader to track the vehicle. After a chase in the Town of Woodbury, the suspect crashed his truck and fled on foot but was quickly captured. He was arrested on charges related to burglary, vehicle pursuit, and failure to comply. Alexander, a repeat offender, was remanded to Orange County Jail without bail.

The City of Middletown Police Department thanked the Town of Woodbury Police Department and the Hudson Valley Crime Analysis Center for their collaboration, which was instrumental in the successful resolution of the case.
