Orange County Drivers Now Getting 20% Discount on Tappan Zee Bridge Tolls
By Y.M. Lowy
Orange County drivers are now getting a break on the toll when crossing the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, or, as many still call it, the Tappan Zee.
A new resident discount created in the 2026-27 New York State Budget is officially in effect, giving eligible Orange County drivers a 20% discount off the standard New York E-ZPass rate. The toll drops from $7.25 to $5.80 per trip for passenger vehicles, saving drivers $1.45 each time they cross.
There is no minimum number of trips required to receive the discount. To qualify, drivers must have an E-ZPass NY account in good standing, with an Orange County address listed on the account.
Eligible accounts are automatically enrolled in the program. The Thruway Authority has also notified residents whose accounts have outstanding issues that must be resolved before they can receive the discount.
The new discount extends toll savings already available to residents of Rockland and Westchester counties. State Senator James Skoufis and Assemblymembers Jonathan Jacobson, Chris Eachus and Paula Elaine Kay helped secure the discount as part of this year’s state budget.
The savings may seem modest on a single trip, but for Orange County residents who regularly cross the bridge, the discount can add up over time.
