NTSB Reveals Cause of Tragic I-84 Bus Crash: Front Tire Blowout
By Y.M. Lowy
The National Transportation Safety Board has released its final report on last year’s deadly bus crash on Interstate 84, near Middletown, just 15 minutes from the Kiryas Yoel area.
The investigation found that a blowout of the front-left tire led to the crash.
The bus was carrying Long Island high school students to camp when a front-left tire blew out. The crash killed two adults and seriously injured 15 others.
After this crash, New York now requires seat belts on charter buses. Only one student wore a seat belt during the crash and was the only one with minor injuries. The law was passed in April, making seat belts on charter buses mandatory.
