Major Sewer Plant Expansion Moves Forward For Monroe Area
YSR.
Plans for a major expansion of the Harriman sewer plant are moving closer to construction, with engineering work for the project now approximately 95 percent complete.
The Orange County project will increase the plant’s treatment capacity from six million gallons per day to nine million gallons, providing more sewer capacity for Monroe and other nearby communities served by the system.
The project will also replace aging equipment and modernize the plant, which includes infrastructure dating back more than 50 years.
Orange County has authorized approximately $200 million for the project, while a $25 million state grant will help cover part of the cost.
Construction is expected to move forward after the final plans, required approvals and bidding process are completed. Once finished, the expansion will provide additional capacity and improve the reliability of the sewer system serving Monroe and the surrounding area.
