Major Milestone Reached in Bowman Bridge Replacement in Blooming Grove

A major step has been completed in the replacement of Bowman Bridge in the Town of Blooming Grove, with Orange County Department of Public Works crews successfully setting the new bridge structure into place on Cherry Hill Road.
The county-owned bridge, located near Shore Drive, has been closed since late July while crews carry out the replacement project. The closure was initially expected to last approximately 120 days.
Orange County is completing the project largely in-house through its Department of Public Works, with county crews handling major portions of the construction rather than relying entirely on an outside contractor.
The replacement has been years in the planning. County records previously identified deterioration of the reinforced concrete deck and scour concerns at the 42-foot-span bridge, leading officials to move forward with a full replacement.
The Orange County Legislature authorized up to $1.386 million for the Bowman Bridge replacement in October 2025.
With the new bridge structure now in place, county officials said the project remains on schedule for early completion in November, with the replacement expected to provide improved long-term safety and stability.
Orange County thanked its DPW crews for keeping the project moving forward and residents for their patience and cooperation during the construction.
