KJFD on the Front Lines: 500 Calls, Fires, and Rescues in One Month

KJFD on the Front Lines: 500 Calls, Fires, and Rescues in One Month

By Y.M. Lowy

It’s been an especially busy stretch for the dedicated volunteers of the Kiryas Joel Fire Department, who responded to nearly 500 emergency calls over the past four weeks alone.

From working fires to safety calls across the community, KJFD members have been on the front lines day and night, handling a wide range of situations with speed and professionalism. The department reported 107 alarm activations, 92 fires, 78 gas smell calls, 69 smoke investigations, 54 carbon monoxide incidents, 31 electrical issues, and 19 motor vehicle accidents.

Among the more serious incidents were a truck fully engulfed in flames and two trailer home fires that were already heavily burning by the time crews arrived. In each case, firefighters acted quickly to bring the situations under control and prevent further damage.

Beyond emergency response, KJFD also played a key role in the community during the annual Biur Chometz, coordinating and overseeing the safe burning process throughout Kiryas Joel.

The department also continues to grow and improve its capabilities. This month saw the fire police truck officially go into service, while a new mini pumper is currently being prepared and is expected to be operational soon.

Training remains a major focus as well. Members participated in multiple training sessions along with relevant shiurim, ensuring they stay ready for the wide range of calls they respond to every day.

Throughout the month, the department also issued many community safety posts, keeping residents informed and aware.

While these numbers tell part of the story, they only offer a glimpse into the constant work being done behind the scenes.
