Chaverim Volunteers Conduct Large-Scale Landfill Search for Lost Diamonds

By Y.M. Lowy

Recently, volunteers from Chaverim of Orange County in Kiryas Joel joined with Baltimore Chaverim at a landfill in Pennsylvania, after valuable diamonds were mistakenly discarded. The operation was coordinated by Interstate Chaverim and required some volunteers to travel more than four hours to reach the site.

Chaverim of Bergen County, headed by Sol Itzkowitz, worked for several days coordinating between the waste management teams and organizations to get everything together and make it work.

Once there, approximately 20 volunteers spent hours sifting through tons of debris in an attempt to recover the lost items. Members of Kiryas Joel Chaverim dedicated more than 15 hours to the physically demanding search.

The effort involved travel, extended hours, and difficult working conditions, all focused on locating a Yid’s’s lost valuables. Despite the challenges, volunteers remained on site for hours as the search continued.
