New York State Senator James Skoufis and Assemblyman Chris Eachus held a press conference on Friday alongside local officials announcing $2.4 million in funding for infrastructure improvements at the intersection of Nininger Road and County Route 105 in the Monroe–Woodbury area, aimed at easing major traffic congestion.
The project will also include the construction of a new connector road linking County Route 105 to Daj Road, creating an additional entrance into the Village of Kiryas Joel and providing another route for drivers entering and exiting the area.
Engineering plans show significant roadway upgrades at the Nininger Road and County Route 105 intersection, including the creation of additional lanes, improved turning movements, and other traffic flow improvements designed to reduce congestion in the heavily traveled area.
The new connector road leading into Kiryas Joel will be led by the Village of Kiryas Joel, while other parts of the project, including improvements along the county roadway and traffic infrastructure, will be handled by Orange County.
Officials say the improvements are intended to ease congestion and improve access for residents and commuters traveling through Monroe, Woodbury, and Kiryas Joel, where traffic volumes have increased in recent years.
The total cost of the project is expected to exceed $9 million. Of that amount, $2.4 million was secured by Senator Skoufis and Assemblyman Eachus, with the remaining funding coming from the Governor’s office and Orange County.
Construction is expected to begin after Yom Tov and continue throughout 2026.
