Work Begins on Route 17 Bridge Replacement in Middletown Area
By Daily Monroe Staff
Construction has begun on a project to replace the bridge carrying Route 17 over Route 17K in the Middletown/Wallkill area, officials announced.
The project is part of the broader Route 17 to I-86 conversion effort, aimed at upgrading the roadway to meet federal highway standards. As part of the improvements, the new bridge will be constructed approximately two feet higher than the existing structure, a change expected to help reduce the risk of accidents.
Route 17 serves as a key transportation corridor throughout the Hudson Valley, connecting communities and supporting regional travel. Officials say the upgrade is an important step in improving safety and infrastructure reliability along the route.
The bridge replacement marks continued progress in the long-term effort to modernize Route 17 and enhance travel conditions for motorists across the region.
