Woodbury Commons Expansion Discussed at Recent Board of Trustees Meeting

By Daily Monroe Staff

The Woodbury Board of Trustees recently held a meeting to discuss the potential expansion of the Woodbury Commons shopping hall.

The topic sparked considerable debate among the board members and the community.

While many board members voted in favor of the expansion, Mayor Giacomazza raised concerns about the representation of local residents in the decision-making process. He noted that most of the votes in favor came from individuals who were not local residents. Mayor Giacomazza emphasized that local residents often felt uncomfortable voicing their opposition in public and participating in the votes. Additionally, some locals were unaware of the meetings and votes altogether.

The proposed expansion plan includes 155,000 gross square feet of new retail and restaurant space, a parking deck with at least 3,000 spaces to consolidate surface parking areas and reduce pedestrian/vehicular intersections, 21,000 gross square feet of tenant storage space for merchants, and a 200-room hotel to be built in the later stages of the project.
