Tuxedo, Woodbury Receive State Cybersecurity Grants for Water Systems
YSR.
The Town of Tuxedo and the Village of Woodbury are among 153 communities across New York State receiving cybersecurity grants through a new statewide program aimed at strengthening the security of drinking water and wastewater systems.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced Monday that more than $9 million has been awarded through the SECURE Cybersecurity Grants program to help local governments better protect critical water infrastructure from growing cyber threats.
According to the state’s list of grant recipients, the Town of Tuxedo was awarded $15,000 for a Wastewater District Cybersecurity Assessment, and the Village of Woodbury will receive $15,000 for a Trout Brook Well Cybersecurity Assessment.
“New York is taking action to protect our critical water infrastructure from cyberattacks that could disrupt services and threaten public health and safety,” Governor Hochul said. “As we have seen with recent malicious cyberattacks on water systems across multiple states, these threats are real and escalating. These investments give local governments the tools they need to strengthen their defenses, safeguard essential services, and keep delivering safe, reliable water to New Yorkers.”
State officials said the funding will help local governments evaluate cybersecurity risks and strengthen protections for water and sewer systems as cyberattacks targeting critical infrastructure become increasingly common.
The grants are part of a statewide initiative designed to help communities meet New York’s cybersecurity standards for water utilities while protecting essential public services relied on by millions of residents.
