State Awards Millions for Local Infrastructure Projects
By Y.M. Lowy
Governor Kathy Hochul announced that more than $36 million has been awarded to 48 projects across New York State through the County Infrastructure Grant Program. First launched in November 2024, the program gives grants to support small- and mid-sized county-led infrastructure projects. Strong infrastructure is key to New York’s economic health, and helping smaller projects move forward keeps the state competitive and growing.
The program was created to improve New York’s infrastructure so it better serves communities across the state. The $50 million program was included in the State’s 2025 Budget, with another $50 million added in the 2026 Budget. Grants up to $500,000 go to priority projects picked by each county that help with local growth, create attractive public spaces, or draw tourists.
Orange County
Orange County received a $1 million grant for important upgrades to the Port Jervis water filtration plant on Reservoir Road. The work will include replacing old filters, pipes, control panels, and the intake screen, which will double the plant’s current capacity. This is needed to support the city’s plans for over 70 new housing units and new commercial development across 118 acres. The improvements will make the plant more reliable and able to meet growing demand as the area continues to expand.
