Safety Concerns Grow as Accidents Continue at Route 208 and Stonegate Drive

By Y.M. Lowy

The intersection of Route 208 and Stonegate Drive has become a growing source of concern for drivers, with accidents occurring there again and again.

Driving on Route 208 from Peddler Hill Road area and making a left toward Stonegate Drive has become a dangerous maneuver. The number of crashes has reached a point where the intersection deserves immediate attention.

Perhaps a dedicated turning lane could make it safer by improving traffic flow and reducing conflicts between turning and through traffic.

Since Route 208 is a New York State highway, any changes to the intersection would need to be made by the New York State Department of Transportation. Drivers in the area are hoping state officials will evaluate the intersection and determine whether improvements are needed before even more crashes occur.

Until then, drivers should use extra caution when approaching the intersection. With accidents continuing to happen on a regular basis, slowing down, staying alert, and watching for turning vehicles can help reduce the risk of another collision.
