Orange County Joins State Drought Watch
By Daily Monroe Staff
Orange County is now under a drought watch as part of New York State’s efforts to address ongoing dry conditions.
Governor Kathy Hochul, in consultation with the State Drought Management Task Force, noted that below-normal precipitation and low groundwater levels have prompted the expansion of the watch to ensure communities have ample notice to conserve water.
Residents are urged to take voluntary conservation measures, including watering lawns only when needed, reusing collected water for plants, repairing leaks, and using water-saving appliances. Public water systems in Orange County are being closely monitored, and officials are advising homeowners with private wells to check water levels and consider storage options to prepare for continued dry conditions.
