New Food Distribution Center Opens in Orange County

By Y.M. Lowy

Governor Kathy Hochul announced the grand opening of the Regional Food Bank Hudson Valley’s new 50,000-square-foot food distribution center in Orange County.

The state-of-the-art facility expands the organization’s food storage and distribution capabilities to better address the growing demand for emergency food assistance in the region.

Funded by a $10.7 million grant from New York State’s Community Development Block Grant CARES program, along with additional support from Empire State Development, private donations, and the Regional Food Bank, the center will serve over 400 local food pantries and shelters.

The facility’s expanded cold storage and sorting areas will help ensure efficient food access for those in need, especially as food insecurity remains a critical issue. The new center is expected to distribute 55 million pounds of food this year, benefiting nearly 180,000 individuals.
