New Emergency Medical Program Coming to Orange County
By Y.M. Lowy
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office got the green light from New York State to start a new emergency program called FLY-Car.
Starting in July 2025, trained deputies will drive special vehicles and respond to medical emergencies. Their job is to get there fast, give basic care, and help until an ambulance arrives. This is for areas where ambulances usually take more than 10 minutes to get there.
To make it happen, the Sheriff’s Office had to prove they had trained staff, a medical director, and a plan to follow state health rules. It took over a year, and as of today, the program is officially approved to start.
