Monroe Fire Departments Take Part in Live Burn Training
By Y.M. Lowy
Monroe Fire and Rescue Company took part in several live burn training scenarios Monday at the Orange County Fire Training Center, with all three Monroe companies participating alongside their mutual aid partners from the Woodbury Fire Department.
The training gave firefighters an opportunity to practice responding to fire conditions in a controlled setting. The Monroe Volunteer Ambulance Corps also provided a bus for medical standby and safety during the exercises.
The department regularly holds training sessions on Mondays to keep firefighters prepared for emergencies.
Later Monday evening, at 8:18 p.m., a standby crew responded to an automatic alarm on Commerce Drive. The call turned out to be caused by a broken sprinkler head, and the crew returned to service.
