Miracle: Firefighters Rescue 2-Year-Old Found Floating on Mattress in Flooded Basement Apartment

Firefighters from KJFD responded early Sunday morning around 6 a.m. to reports of severe water flooding inside a basement apartment on Prag Boulevard.

The father of the home first noticed water gushing through the house and went to investigate. The family tried evacuating the apartment once they noticed how the water level was quickly rising.

As the situation escalated, the father attempted to re-enter the home to reach his toddler. However, by that point, the pressure from the incoming water had built up against the door, making it extremely difficult to open and blocking his access back inside.

With conditions worsening by the minute, firefighters from the KJ Fire Department arrived on scene and forced their way into the residence despite the strong water pressure pushing against the structure.

Once inside, firefighters searched through rapidly rising floodwater and located the 2-year-old child floating on a mattress that the water had lifted. The child was still inside the home in heavy flooding conditions.

The firefighters were, Baruch Hashem, able to reach the toddler and safely carry the child out of the house to safety.
