Major repaving work began this week along Route 17M in Monroe, moving the massive improvement project into work mode.
As Daily Monroe reported last year, Governor Kathy Hochul’s 2026 paving plan included $13 million for resurfacing two sections of Route 17M: from Route 94 to Route 207 and from Route 17 to Gilbert Street, through Chester, Goshen, Monroe, and Blooming Grove. The funding was part of a broader New York State investment in roadway improvements.
Preparations had been carried out recently along the 17M to prepare for the project, including curb repairs ahead of the resurfacing. Crews are now removing old pavement and laying a new surface, with several crews working at once.
The work is being carried out overnight, when traffic is lighter. One lane is closed through the construction area, with controlled traffic passing through the remaining lane.
Despite the overnight schedule, some motorists told Daily Monroe that getting through the zone has taken considerably long, as multiple crews and paving equipment are operating at once.
Drivers should consider alternate routes where possible and allow extra travel time when using Route 17M during the overnight work.
