Kiryas Joel Pushes for Its Own Post Office as USPS Reviews Proposal

A meeting recently took place between Kiryas Joel leadership and senior oficials from theUnited States Postal Service (USPS) to discuss ongoing mail service needs and the possibility of establishing a dedicated post office for Kiryas Joel.

For nearly three hours, participants discussed the structure of local postal service in the area, with current operations handled through the Monroe Post Office, which primarily serves a widerrural-style delivery network across surrounding communities.

Thousands of families, mosdos, and businesses depend on the postal system every day forimportant correspondence, donations, government documents, and other essential mail.

Kiryas Joel itself functions more like a dense, urban-style delivery zone, with a large volume ofdaily mail generated by thousands of households, businesses, and mosdos, while the physical post office location remains outside the community.

They also pointed out that many residentsrely on walking, public transportation, or limited vehicle access, making travel to the Monroe facility less convenient for routine postal needs.

USPS oficials arrived with a list of incidents reported by carriers throughout Kiryas Joel, including situations where children gathered around mail trucks, stood near delivery vehicles, blocked access to mailbox stations, requested rubber bands, or created safety concerns while carriers were working.

Community leaders acknowledged that and pledged to address the issue through public awareness eforts in schools,  yeshivos, and community notices.

They stressed that children should always treat postal employees with respect and stay clear of delivery vehicles.

A major focus of the meeting was the possibility of creating a dedicated Kiryas Joel post office within the Town of Palm Tree, reflecting the community’s growth and its distinct service needs compared to surrounding areas.

At the meeting, it was formally requested that USPS conduct a feasibility review to evaluate thepotential for a local postal facility.

While no final decisions were announced, attendees described the meeting as a constructiveand forward-looking discussion, with further review expected as part of the USPS evaluationprocess.
