Gov. Hochul Announces $288 Million for Water Infrastructure Across New York, Including $3.5 Million for Kiryas Joel

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that New York State has approved $288 million in grants and low-cost financing to support water and sewer infrastructure projects across the state, including $3.5 million for the Village of Kiryas Joel to upgrade its wastewater treatment system.

The funding was approved by the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation (EFC) Board and is aimed at helping communities modernize aging infrastructure while keeping water and sewer rates affordable for residents. The money comes from a combination of federal infrastructure funds and state programs, allowing local governments to move forward with critical projects without placing heavy financial burdens on ratepayers.

In Kiryas Joel, the $3.5 million allocation includes a federal grant and interest-free financing that will be used to construct tertiary filtration improvements at the village’s wastewater treatment plant. The upgrades are expected to strengthen water quality, improve system performance, and ensure long-term compliance with environmental standards.

State officials say the funding is part of a broader effort to address water quality and infrastructure needs statewide, with a strong focus on replacing outdated systems and protecting public health. Much of the funding flows through New York’s Clean Water and Drinking Water State Revolving Funds, which provide low-interest and interest-free financing, along with grants that help offset costs.
