Drones Disrupt Stewart Airfield

Drones Disrupt Stewart Airfield

By Y.M. Lowy

Friday night at Stewart Airfield turned into a major disruption when drone activity forced the runways to shut down for about an hour.

The drone incident at Stewart was just the latest in a series of troubling reports from across New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, where drones have been spotted in restricted airspace, including over the bustling streets of New York City.

Governor Kathy Hochul didn’t hold back in her response: “This has gone too far,” she said in a statement.

But despite a growing number of sightings, the White House has downplayed the threat, calling many of the reported drones “likely just planes.”

With drone sightings on the rise and local leaders growing more frustrated, the pressure is on the federal government to take decisive action before another flight is grounded.
