A downed electric pole which was knocked over around 4 a.m., caught fire and burned for a time. The KJ Fire Department quickly responded and extinguished the flames.

The cause of the downed pole was not immediately clear, though high winds were believed to have played a role. As a result, Forest Road was closed between Schunnemunk Road and Mountain Road while crews worked to clear the wreckage.

Orange & Rockland Electric arrived on the scene around 8 a.m. to begin repairs and restore power to affected areas. Motorists were advised to seek alternate routes until the road was reopened. The road was cleared later in the morning, and service was restored shortly after.
