Delays Expected Today at Bear Mountain Bridge for 100th Anniversary Celebration
By Daily Monroe Staff
Marking the 100th anniversary of the opening of the iconic Bear Mountain Bridge, the New York State Bridge Authority is urging drivers today to anticipate delays in the area due to special events planned to commemorate the milestone.
A dedication ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on the west side of the bridge. Although the event is closed to the public and limited to invited guests, it will involve a ceremonial motorcade that will travel southbound along Route 9D from Garrison Elementary School, heading toward the bridge just before the ceremony begins. During this time, traffic on the bridge will be temporarily halted. While surrounding roads will remain open, motorists should expect possible delays, as traffic will be slowed throughout the event, which is expected to last about half an hour. Afterward, there may still be some lingering delays.
For those planning to travel across the Bear Mountain Bridge between 9:30 and 11 a.m. on Sunday, the Bridge Authority advises avoiding the area if possible. Pedestrians will be crossing the bridge during this time, and drivers should be extra cautious.
