Congressman Pat Ryan Secures Over $2 Million for Earl Reservoir Dam Repairs in Woodbury
By Daily Monroe Staff
Woodbury is set to receive more than $2 million in FEMA disaster relief funding, thanks to the efforts of Congressman Pat Ryan, to repair critical damage sustained by the Earl Reservoir Dam during the devastating July 2023 floods. The dam, originally built in 1912, suffered severe structural damage from high-velocity floodwaters, leaving it vulnerable to collapse, a scenario that would threaten homes, roads, and utilities throughout the area.
Congressman Ryan has been a vocal advocate for flood relief across the Hudson Valley, consistently pressing FEMA and federal officials for support. His bipartisan efforts, including working alongside Congressman Mike Lawler and pressing FEMA leadership in committee hearings, have been instrumental in delivering resources to affected communities. Today’s funding announcement marks a major milestone in Ryan’s ongoing campaign to bolster the region’s storm resilience and safeguard residents against future disasters.
Town of Woodbury Supervisor Kathryn Luciani praised the funding as a result of relentless advocacy and collaboration. Having worked closely with FEMA since taking office in late 2023, Luciani called the funding a "win" for the entire community. With the funds now secured, repair efforts can move forward to stabilize the dam and ensure long-term safety for residents in and around Woodbury.
