Community Alert: Scammers Impersonate Monroe Police Chief

The Monroe Police Department has issued a warning after multiple reports of attempted fraud in Kiryas Joel, where scammers are impersonating Police Chief Darwin Guzman, deceiving residents into buying gift cards. 

Recently, two Kiryas Joel residents received calls from someone claiming to be Chief Guzman, advising them to purchase gift cards. However, these calls were fraudulent, Chief Guzman told Daily Monroe.

The Monroe Police Department never requests gift cards or payments over the phone. If you receive a suspicious call, verify its authenticity by contacting the Monroe Police Department at 845-782-8644 or the New York State Police at 845-344-5300.
