By Yisroel R.

A bomb threat led to the evacuation of an Orange County social services building in Newburgh on Tuesday, according to officials.

The Orange County Office of Emergency Management said 911 received a report of a threat at the building, located at 3 Washington Center. City of Newburgh Police, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, and New York State Police responded to the scene.

Officials said the building was evacuated as a precaution. Authorities described the incident as appearing to be isolated, and police are working to identify the caller.

The building is next to the SUNY Orange Newburgh campus. A spokesperson for SUNY Orange said the social services building is not part of the college campus and there were no disruptions to classes or operations.

The evacuation follows two reported bomb scares in 2023 at a nearby county office building on Broadway. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains ongoing.
