$30 Million Infrastructure Project to Modernize Key Roads in Orange County, NY
By Daily Monroe Staff
Governor Kathy Hochul has announced the launch of a major $30 million infrastructure project aimed at enhancing safety, traffic flow, and flood resiliency across several communities in Orange County.
The project will span the Towns of Warwick and Goshen, as well as the Villages of Warwick, Florida, and Goshen, areas known for their scenic farms, festivals, and thriving local tourism.
At the heart of the project is the resurfacing of 14 miles of State Routes 17A and 94, from the New Jersey state line to the Town of Goshen. The repaving will include high-visibility epoxy-painted road markings for safer travel in poor weather, along with upgrades to traffic signals and pedestrian access points.
Key elements of the project include:
- A new roundabout at the intersection of State Route 94, County Route 1A, and Reservoir Road in the Town of Warwick. This modern, landscaped roundabout will ease congestion, reduce accident risk, and improve pedestrian access.
- Replacement of four culverts, three along Route 94 and one along 17A, to enhance stormwater drainage and prevent erosion.
- Pedestrian safety upgrades, including new sidewalks, crosswalks, ADA-compliant curb ramps, and accessible pedestrian signals.
Intersection improvements at key locations, including:
- Route 94 at 17A
- Route 94 at Colonial Avenue
- Route 94 at Meadow Road
- Route 94 at Reservoir Road
Governor Hochul emphasized the project’s broader goals, stating, “This multi-faceted project is part of our ongoing commitment to create 21st Century transportation infrastructure that focuses on the needs of communities across the Hudson Valley. We are enhancing safety and easing travel to the many popular destinations this fast-growing region has to offer.”
Staged construction will involve lane shifts, minor detours, and limited daily closures, with the entire project expected to be completed by summer 2027.
