$25 Million Revitalization Underway at Bear Mountain State Park
A major transformation is underway at Bear Mountain State Park as crews continue work on a $25 million revitalization project aimed at modernizing the historic destination while preserving it for future generations.
Heavy equipment is now active throughout the park as construction progresses on several major improvements, including a new ADA-accessible destination playground featuring natural rock scrambles and towering slides built into the mountainside.
The project will also expand picnic and gathering areas near Hessian Lake, add a new central restroom facility and visitor plaza, and install upgraded stormwater infrastructure designed to better protect the lake from erosion and runoff during severe weather.
Despite the ongoing construction, Bear Mountain State Park remains open to visitors, although some areas are temporarily closed and parking near the main lawn may be limited.
State officials expect the extensive renovation project to be completed in time for a grand reopening by Memorial Day 2027.
