$13.7 Million in Road Projects Begin in Hudson Valley
By Y.M. Lowy
Governor Kathy Hochul announced that work has officially begun on two major highway resurfacing projects in the Hudson Valley, totaling $13.7 million. The upgrades will improve parts of State Route 17 in Orange County and State Route 52 in Putnam County.
The larger of the two projects is a $9.7 million effort to resurface five miles of Route 17 in the Town of Wallkill, connecting State Route 302 to the Sullivan County line. This roadway is a vital link between the lower Hudson Valley and destinations in the Catskills and Southern Tier.
Meanwhile, a $4 million project will focus on a three-mile segment of Route 52 in the Town of Kent.
Both projects include upgrades like stronger asphalt, improved drainage, upgraded traffic signals, and ADA-compliant curb ramps. Reflective road markings will also be added for better visibility in poor weather.
Construction will primarily take place at night to reduce traffic, with single-lane closures during paving hours. Work on both projects is expected to wrap up by the fall.
